Since 2008 we have grown from a two-man shop into a twenty-seven-strong workshop — without ever rushing a joint.
Our Story
From a Mill Building to Hudson\u2019s Timber Workshop
Adrian Mercer founded TimberHaus Craft in 2008 in a rented corner of a former mill building in Hudson, New York — two second-hand machines, a bench built from salvaged pine, and a conviction that machine speed should never decide how a joint is cut.
Word travelled the way it does for workshops: one staircase led to a kitchen, a kitchen to a library, a library to an architect who brought us our first whole-house commission in 2012. Elena Brooks joined in 2014 to lead design, and in 2016 we opened the bespoke interiors division. By 2020 the workshop had tripled to 1,100 square metres with its own spray room and timber store.
Today twenty-seven makers design, build and finish everything under one roof — and every piece is still inspected, signed and warranted by the people who made it.

The Timber Decides
We grade every board by hand and reject one in five. The right piece of wood, in the right place, does half the designing.

Draw It Before You Cut It
Nothing is left to guesswork. Every junction is drawn, dimensioned and signed off before a saw touches timber.

Sign the Work
The maker\u2019s stamp goes on every piece. If our name is on it, we stand behind it for years — in writing.
The Workshop
1,100 Square Metres of Making
Machine room, bench room, spray room, timber store and design studio — arranged so every project flows from rough board to finished piece without ever leaving the building.
Visitors are welcome on the first Saturday of each month: watch dovetails being cut, smell the cedar racks, and argue with us about finishes.

Materials
Honest Timber, Responsibly Sourced
White oak, black walnut, ash, cherry, maple, Douglas fir and cedar — FSC-certified as standard, reclaimed wherever the story suits. Every delivery is moisture-tested and graded before it touches a rack.
Offcuts heat the workshop in winter; shavings go to local stables. A workshop should leave the forest better than it found it.
